MEDIA RELEASE
The Returned & Services League of Australia‘s (RSL) has welcomed the appointment of Western Australian MP Matt Keogh as Minister for Veterans’ Affairs and Defence Personnel.
RSL Australia President Greg Melick said he was confident the Albanese Government was well versed in the issues confronting Australia’s veteran community and service personnel.
“The RSL looks forward to working with Mr Keogh, the Government and indeed the Australian community as it seeks better outcomes for those who are serving and have served our nation in the armed forces,” Greg Melick said.
“Particularly, the issues being raised by the current Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide are challenging and will require concerted action on the part of Government, ex-service organisations and the community if we are to provide sustainable solutions.
“We look forward to joining with Mr Keogh in this process and in addressing the other crucial issues faced by veterans and their families.”
Greg Melick said the RSL enjoyed strong relationships with all sides of Australian politics, with its priority to achieve the best outcomes for Australia’s Defence forces and the veteran community.
“We congratulate Mr Albanese on the election of the Labor Government and on his appointment as Prime Minister. We look forward to building on our already strong governmental relationships with the new Prime Minister, Minister Keogh and other Government Ministers.
“The RSL thanks the former Prime Minster Scott Morrison, Defence Minister Peter Dutton, Veterans’ Affairs Ministers Darren Chester and Andrew Gee, as well as Shayne Neumann, the long-term shadow minister, for their continued strong support for veterans.”
