The Returned & Services League of Australia (RSL) has called on the Federal Government to fast-track Australian visa support for Afghan support staff who have assisted Australian Defence forces and officials during the deployment in Afghanistan.

The Returned & Services League of Australia (RSL) has made a detailed submission on the themes for a consultation to inform the Terms of Reference for the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide.

The ANZAC of the Year Awards are made annually ‘to recognise the efforts and achievements of up to seven Australians who have given service to their fellow Australians and to the community in a positive, selfless and compassionate manner.’

This year Australians can choose how they honour the service and sacrifice of veterans on ANZAC Day, in private reflections or at a public service . With the easing of COVID-19 restrictions, various RSL sub-branches across the nation will safely host numerous events, services and marches for the public to attend on Sunday 25 April.

The RSL reiterates its previous commitments to provide its full support for the Royal Commission to investigate the incidence of veteran and Defence personnel suicide. The RSL will input into the development of terms of reference, participate in hearings and continue to provide advice and support to the Federal Government.

The Returned & Services League (RSL) will fully support the establishment of whatever body is approved by the Australian Parliament to deal with the scourge of veterans’ suicide including a Royal Commission.

The Returned & Services League (RSL) of Australia has announced the appointment of the highly respected and experienced Australian Army officer, and Australian Federal Police (AFP) Executive Officer, Brigadier Philip Winter, AM, CSC, ADC as its new National Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

Despite the horrific and reprehensible allegations, all personnel suspected of alleged war crimes in Afghanistan are entitled to due process.

The RSL views the allegations as extremely serious and speculation has already impacted adversely on veterans who served in Afghanistan and their families.

RSL is pleased the Commonwealth Government has announced the appointment of Dr Bernadette Boss CSC as the new interim National Commissioner for Defence and Veteran Suicide Prevention.
