Statement

Social media comments that the RSL has released a new Remembrance Day commemorative poppy pin incorporating the pride rainbow are incorrect.

A poppy pin including the pride rainbow was previously produced by the curators of the “Serving in Silence” exhibition held in March this year. This exhibition commemorated the achievements, sacrifices and contributions that members of the LBGTI community have made to the Australian Defence Force since the Second World War.

The RSL is supportive of inclusivity and diversity and supported this exhibition. Following the exhibition, the Bendigo RSL Sub-branch had six of the pins left over and these were offered for sale on its website.

To remove any confusion that these pins are available widely for purchase for Remembrance Day, the Rainbow Poppies were taken down from the Bendigo RSL site last night.

Official Poppy Appeal pins can be purchased here: https://commemorative-badges.myshopify.com/

As we approach Remembrance Day, we encourage all Australians to pause for a minute of silence at 11 a.m. on 11th November to remember and honour those who have sacrificed while serving our nation in the Defence forces
