RSL Winners of Saluting their Service Commemorative Grants - 2023-24, Batch 3

RSL Australia congratulates the branches across the League that have been successful in securing a Saluting Their Service grant to fund important commemorative initiatives to ensure the stories of service and sacrifice of local servicemen and women are remembered forever.

NSW

  • Brewarrina RSL Sub Branch awarded $10,000 to construct a memorial statue and update an honour board to commemorate ADF personnel.

  • City of Penrith RSL Sub Branch awarded $1,400 to commemorate the 80th Anniversary (04 August 2024) of the Cowra Prisoners of War Camp breakout by Japanese Prisoners of War.

  • Gloucester RSL Sub Branch awarded $386 to frame an impressive WW1 photograph (titled Spirit of ANZAC) of troops in Egypt along with an explanation of ANZAC ideals.

  • Helensburgh RSL Sub Branch awarded $92,000 to repaint an ex-Defence UH-1B Iroquois helicopter and display at the Historical Aircraft Restoration Aviation Museum.

  • Maitland RSL Sub Branch awarded $131,000 to restore and upgrade the first World War Memorial.

  • Raymond Terrace RSL Sub Branch awarded $2,000 to refurbish the flagpole at the Seaham Knitting Circle Memorial in NSW.

  • RSL NSW awarded $2,778 to host an Inaugural Middle East Area of Operations Commemoration ceremony at the Cenotaph in Sydney.

  • Wallsend RSL Sub Branch awarded $2,000 to install flagpoles at Federal Park.

  • RSL NSW awarded $53,669 to construct a Memorial known as the Hawkesbury Cenotaph to commemorate local service personnel.

  • Grafton RSL Sub Branch awarded $5,408 to replace the 2 plaques in the RSL's Wooli Cenotaph.

NT

  • Alice Springs RSL Sub Branch awarded $10,000 to create a virtual museum that will include a website and podcasts.

QLD

  • Mount Isa RSL Sub-Branch awarded $7,583 to install display cabinets in the Mt Isa RSL Sub Branch's new premises to showcase military memorabilia.

  • Stanthorpe RSL Sub-Branch awarded $91,754 to install two new memorials and a disability ramp. Rename an existing garden to the Stanthorpe Memorial Garden.  Refurbish an existing 77mm Turkish Field gun and relocate it to the memorial garden.

SA

  • RSL Semaphore and Port Adelaide Sub Branch awarded $10,000 to design, manufacture, and supply a multi-function display cabinet, including adjustable shelving and dimmable LED downlights.

  • RSL Semaphore and Port Adelaide Sub Branch awarded $500 to update memorial rolls and honour boards within the Semaphore and Port Adelaide RSL with names of past members.

  • Nuriootpa RSL Sub Branch awarded $7,579 to install two new display cabinets to allow items from campaigns/theatres such as East Timor, Afghanistan, Iraq (both Gulf Wars), and the numerous peacekeeping missions that Australian veterans have been involved in to be displayed.

TAS

  • Northern Midlands RSL Sub Branch awarded $9,500 to enhance a memorial garden at the Longford consisting of a plaque and seat to honour the service and sacrifice of Australia’s service personnel.

  • Sheffield RSL Sub Branch awarded $3,025 to refurbish the existing Sheffield RSL Sub Branch honour boards located in the club foyer.

  • Swansea RSL Sub Branch awarded $13,815 to preserve and display a Second World War Changi POW Australian flag.

VIC

  • Wycheproof RSL Sub-Branch awarded $4,000 to restore and re-paint a WW2 Military Gun situated in Centenary Park, Wycheproof.

The Saluting Their Service Program is an ongoing program that is always open for applications.  

Assessment of applications is split into three batches across the year. For 2024-25, these are: 

  • Batch 1 – applications submitted between 27 February 2024 and 20 June 2024

  • Batch 2 – applications submitted between 21 June 2024 and 03 October 2024

  • Batch 3 – applications submitted between 04 October 2024 and 05 February 2025
