RSL Open Arms Join to Support Veteran Mental Health

MEDIA RELEASE

The Returned & Services League of Australia (RSL) has partnered with veterans and families  counselling service, Open Arms to offer in-house mental health training to the veteran community.

The RSL has appointed experienced executive Mrs Cyndy Jakobi as National Mental Health  Training Coordinator to manage the program.

RSL National President Greg Melick the mental health and wellbeing of the veteran community  was extremely important to all members of the RSL.

“We look forward to offering this training assistance to the veteran community, in partnership with  Open Arms,” Greg Melick said.

“Over the next year, Cyndy will be helping coordinate mental health training workshops across the  country in cooperation with RSL Branches and Sub-Branches.”

Greg Melick said Cyndy’s previous service in the Canadian Armed Forces, and recent position as  Quality and Training Manager for a privately-owned business made her an ideal candidate for this  critical position.

“Over the next few weeks, Cyndy will be connecting with Open Arms and RSL Branch  representatives to conduct stakeholder interviews to assist in planning further mental health  training program initiatives for veterans across the country.

“The RSL has long been concerned about mental health impacts on the veteran community and  the appointment of Cyndy Jakobi and the program she will develop will help address these.

“Our partnership with Open Arms and its experience in providing mental health and wellbeing  support for veterans and serving Defence Force personnel will ensure that we can offer the best  possible program to our veterans,” Greg Melick said.
