RSL calls on Australians to honour those who have died in Military Service this Remembrance Day.
MEDIA RELEASE
The Returned & Services League of Australia (RSLA) has called on Australians to pause next Monday (11 November 2024) to remember all those who have died in the nation’s military service.
RSL Australia President Greg Melick has asked all Australians to unite and ‘remember to remember’ by observing a minute’s silence at 11am next Monday, Remembrance Day, to honour those who have bravely served our country with many continuing to serve our country today.
“At 11am on 11 November 1918, the guns of the Western Front fell silent after more than four years of continuous war,” Greg Melick said.
“The eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month has attained a special significance, and people in Australia and many other countries pause for a minute of silent reflection in memory of those who’ve died while in military service.
“With conflicts and tensions continuing to rage in the Middle East, Ukraine and elsewhere around the world, it is important to remember the contribution of our veterans and current Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel to protect the liberty enjoyed by all Australians.
“The RSL is asking Australians to join in this Remembrance Day, in honouring our veterans, whether it be by attending a service, wearing a red poppy, observing a minute's silence at 11am or donating to the Poppy Appeal.”
The Returned & Services League is committed to leading the nation in commemoration, and Remembrance Day services will take place at cenotaphs, memorials and RSL sub-branches across the country.
Greg Melick said it was vital that as a nation, we remember all those who have served and those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
“Remembrance Day is a day to pause to honour the courage and sacrifices of all those who have served in our Defence forces and remember those who have died in military service.
“We encourage Australians, wherever they may be, and whatever they are doing, to pause at 11am on Monday 11 November and remember to remember,” he said
