RSL Queensland
Louise Swanborough - RSL Queensland State Branch (pictured above)
Louise Swanborough is the Manager Membership Services RSL Queensland. Louise arrived at RSL Queensland in 2021 to take over responsibility for membership management.
She found that the membership management system (MMS) needed attention. Louise was able to incorporate constant incremental changes to MMS that today is a much more efficient system, saving money and time. This collaboration has also improved the renewal of memberships process from 85% to over 90% with a smoother uptake and the highest number of members ever renewing. Two collaborative successes this year for her were the introduction of a streamlined method of membership reporting that has resulted in accurate data being available to RSL Queensland and the Districts. Previously the reports required manual intervention. As well, the implementation of a system to send text messages directly to members from within MMS is a great achievement. In 2021 training in MMS was ad hoc. Louise set up a training pilot involving Brisbane North District and her MMS staff. The pilot was successful, and the training has since been rolled out to all Districts, both face-to-face and virtual, being a valuable touch point between RSL Queensland and the Districts and Sub-Branches.
A significant achievement was bringing RSL Western Australia on board to MMS with a custom-created interface. Louise contributed by liaising closely with the RSL Western Australia staff to incorporate their unique requirements and to train them. Other improvements included setting up procedures to manage the efficient processing of RSL awards.
Over three years, Louise has made an excellent contribution to membership management and is acknowledged throughout RSL Queensland as the subject matter expert in all matters memberships, well-deserving the recognition this award brings.

Marlene Curyer (86) and Margaret Peterson (93) - West Croydon Kilkenny RSL Sub-Branch
Marlene and Margaret have been selling raffle tickets every Friday night for the last 27 years! They are both very proud of their age and are more than happy for anyone to know just how old they are, and how long they have been involved. Every Friday night, they arrive at 1700, sell tickets at the door until 1830, when they move to the middle of the hall, spin the wheel, (which is labelled “M & M’s” Wheel), greet the winners with beaming smiles, write their names and winning numbers on the white board, and present them with their prize, only to come back next week to do it all again. These two ladies are indefatigable. They have served as committee members, and, while it existed, the Ladies Auxiliary. They were both very involved with the Legacy Widows group who met at our Sub-Branch for many years until 2021, when COVID and the advancing years and declining numbers forced them to disband.

After some early teething problems with the new committee, we secured a service member as President but had a vacancy for the Vice-President position. Anne was approached and took on the role on condition that no service member was available. Anne has held that position since.
