110th Anniversary of Gallipoli Landing – RSL Encourages Australians to Commemorate Anzac Day

MEDIA RELEASE

The Returned & Services League of Australia (RSL) is encouraging all Australians to commemorate Anzac Day this coming Friday, 25 April 2025.

This Anzac Day marks a significant anniversary – 110 years since the ANZACs landed on the Gallipoli Peninsula in 1915 during World War One, so beginning a proud history of service and sacrifice that continues to be revered more than a century later.

RSL Australia National President Greg Melick said this solemn occasion allows us to honour the enduring contributions of our service personnel, both past and present.

“The Gallipoli campaign was the first major military action involving Australian and New Zealand forces,” he said.

“As the sun rose on 25 April 1915, the ANZAC soldiers faced their first major battle of the Great War. They held their ground against almost impossible odds for eight months in the ravines and gullies of that rugged battleground, suffering terrible casualties. They fought with endurance, courage, ingenuity, good humour, and mateship.

“Amidst unimaginable hardship, this ANZAC spirit was forged and became the benchmark, inspiring pride and camaraderie in future generations, so the legacy of the ANZACs continues to inspire us all.

“On Anzac Day, we honour this legacy and that of all who have served our nation in wars, conflicts, peacekeeping or other operations, as well as their contributions to our liberty and way of life.”

Greg Melick said there is no greater way to honour those who have served than by commemorating together as a community. On Friday, 25 April, thousands of Anzac Day services will take place across Australia, and the RSL warmly welcomes all members of the community, whether at home or travelling, to attend and stand in remembrance.

“While Anzac Day is a National Day of Remembrance in Australia and New Zealand to commemorate the contributions and sacrifices of all military personnel who fought in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations, our veterans deserve recognition and support throughout the year.

“The RSL is Australia's largest ex-service organisation, dedicated to serving and supporting those who have served since 1916. RSL Australia advocates to ensure the needs of veterans and their families are met and their voices are heard year-round, continually working to improve the lives of all in the veteran community,” he said.
